Caverton Marine partners with ExploMar to electrify Lagos ferries

ExploMar (Suzhou) Energy Technology Co. Ltd. of China has partnered with Caverton Marine Limited, a prominent Nigerian provider of marine transportation services. By integrating electric outboard engines from ExploMar into the recently launched passenger ferries fittingly dubbed OMIBUS, Caverton Marine hopes to promote sustainable transportation in Nigeria.

The Lagos State Government has put the OMIBUS—which Caverton Marine constructed at its facilities in Lagos, Nigeria—into service.

ExploMar's cutting-edge electric outboard systems are being installed on these ferries by Caverton Marine, which not only improves fleet operational efficiency but also lessens environmental impact and carbon emissions.
Two weeks ago, on July 29, Caverton Marine and the Lagos State government successfully started a pilot program for the OMIBUS to determine operational expenses.
This trial program has taught us a lot, one of which is how much the loss of the fuel subsidy will affect operations and, eventually, the price of a ferry ticket. This emphasises how vital it is to look into less expensive and more environmentally friendly ways to power the ships.

The partnership between ExploMar and Caverton Marine demonstrates a dedication to sustainable innovation. The outboard electric motors from ExploMar will significantly reduce the environmental footprint of the ferries, promoting cleaner waterways and air quality in Lagos. ExploMar’s state-of-the-art electric outboard systems are designed for high performance and reliability. These engines will improve the operational efficiency of the ferries, offering quieter and more cost-effective alternatives to traditional fossil fuel engines.
Chief Executive Officer of Group Caverton Offshore Support Group Bode Makanjuola commented on the collaboration, saying: "This agreement with ExploMar represents a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainable maritime operations." We are establishing new benchmarks for passenger ferry services in Nigeria and proving our dedication to a greener future by utilising ExploMar's cutting-edge technology. This program is in line with Caverton Marine's objective to strengthen regional industries in addition to promoting environmental objectives. Our maritime vessels' electrification demonstrates the possibility of using domestically developed solutions to address global issues.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with Caverton Marine on this groundbreaking project," stated Alex Dong, CEO of ExploMar. Not just in Nigeria but all around Africa, the ferries outfitted with our electric outboard motors will act as role models for environmentally friendly maritime transportation. Our proactive involvement, which acknowledged the need for creative solutions in Nigeria and throughout Africa, gave rise to the cooperation. Significant advantages from this partnership are anticipated, including lower operating costs, improved passenger satisfaction, and a favourable environmental effect.
