Civil servants’ screening on IPPIS portal ends Friday – FG
The window of time during which federal employees can authenticate themselves on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System portal has once again been extended by the federal government.
A fresh memo from the IPPIS management, seen by our correspondent on Sunday, stated that individuals who might not have updated their information have been given an additional week, which ends on Friday, August 23, 2024.
It also attested to the fact that work has started on compiling and confirming all of the data that has been submitted.
Remember how the government, in an attempt to stop wage theft, had ordered all workers who were registered on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System to update their information?
Oluwatoyin Madein, the Federation's Accountant-General, issued a circular with a July 31 deadline before granting a two-week extension, which ended on August 15.
A citizen residing overseas complained that he was still receiving his monthly salary even though he had left the nation years prior, prompting the command to confirm the identification of all civil officials.
In retaliation, President Bola Tinubu ordered that all government employees receiving salary after moving overseas be required to return the funds.
In addition, the President threatened to discipline department heads and supervisors who were discovered to have assisted in these fraudulent schemes.
I was aware of the events of the week while I was recently in South Africa. The disclosures made public by the Head of the Civil Service about workers who had moved overseas and continued to receive their pay without officially quitting caught me off guard.
It is encouraging to learn that steps are being taken to address this problem, but we still need to make sure that those at fault are held accountable and that compensation is given.
It is necessary to force the offenders to return the money they have wrongfully obtained. For encouraging and abetting the fraud while they were watching, their managers and department heads ought to face consequences as well, Tinubu had stated.
Titled "Notification of closure of payroll validation portal," the revised circular states, "The Payroll Validation Portal deadline was extended by the Treasury Circular with Ref. No. TRY/A6&B6/2024-GAGF/CAD/026/Vol. V/2024, dated June 27, 2024, to midnight on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
"All of the submitted data is now being collated and validated. The process has begun. A one-week extension has been granted for those who may not have updated their information during the collation time, and it ends on Friday, August 23, 2024.
"Any employee who fails to adhere to the circular by the deadline will have their pay suspended," it is stressed here.
