Court Sentences Bishop Feyi Daniel To Life Imprisonment For Raping Church Member

Bishop Feyiropo Daniels, the founder of "I Reign Christian Ministry" in the Lekki neighbourhood of Lagos, has been found guilty and sentenced to life in prison by the Lagos High Court, which is located in Ikeja, for the rape of one of his church members.

In addition, the bishop was given a three-year prison sentence by Justice Rahman Oshodi for the sexual assault of two church members.

As per the judge's ruling, both sentences are to be served concurrently.

Additionally, the Lagos State Government's Sexual Offenders Register must have his name on file.

The Lagos state government charged Bishop Daniels on April 17 of last year on two counts related to allegedly having sex with two members of his church.

Not guilty was his plea.

The defendant allegedly committed the offences in June 2020 at the Lekki, Lagos, Ikota Villa Estate, according to the prosecution.

Section 260(2) of the Lagos 2015 Criminal Laws is violated by the offences.

Judge Oshodi delivered the verdict today, stating that in spite of the defendant's denials, he accepted the testimony of the complainant and other witnesses who provided direct testimony that was never disputed during the trial.
The court further declared that, in accordance with section 260(2) of the Lagos State 2015 criminal laws, the prosecution had successfully established every element of rape.

However, on a second count of allegedly raping another church member at his home in 2020, Justice Oshodi dismissed the defendant's case.

The court said the prosecution failed to prove the elements of the use of force, fear of harm by the complainant and misrepresentation by the defendant to establish guilt in the offence of rape beyond all reasonable doubt.

The court also ordered the defendant to serve his jail term at the Kirikiri Maximum Facility where he is currently being detained.
The court determined that "the cleric used his dominant character and position to sexually violate two members of his church" in its ruling.

"The mandatory life sentence for rape and the three-year jail sentence for sexual assault do not lessen the harm that is done to the victims.

The Bishop was accused of raping a church member at his Lekki home last year.

As a leader in the campus fellowship connected to his ministry at Akungba-Akobo in Ondo State, he was also accused of having sex with three other women, to whom he had given N100,000 for one woman's hospital treatment, paid another woman's school fees, and maintained a relationship with the final woman.
