De Bruyne confirms his leaving Man City at end of season
Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne announced on Friday that he will depart from the club at the conclusion of the current season.
At 33 years old, De Bruyne has secured 14 significant trophies since his transfer to City from Wolfsburg in 2015, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2023.
“Writing this is not easy, but as professional footballers, we understand that this day inevitably arrives. That day has come – and you deserve to hear it from me first,” De Bruyne expressed in a social media post.
“Football has brought me to all of you and to this city. Pursuing my dream, I had no idea that this journey would transform my life. This city. This club. These people… have given me EVERYTHING. I had no option but to reciprocate with EVERYTHING! And look what we achieved – we won it all.”
The Belgian international has played a crucial role in establishing City as a leading force in English football.
He was honored as the players’ player of the year twice, in the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons, and currently ranks second in the Premier League's all-time assists list with 118.
His contract is set to expire at the end of June, but it remains uncertain whether he will finish his tenure as a City player during the Club World Cup, scheduled from June 14 to July 13.
“Every story must conclude, but this has undoubtedly been the finest chapter,” De Bruyne remarked. “Let’s cherish these final moments together!”
