Edo poll: Police, military intensify security measures

Residents of the state would have enough security during the election, according to Frank Mba, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in command of the contingent for the Edo State governorship election.

Mba stated on Wednesday that Olukayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, had sent out enough police officers to ensure security throughout the poll.

He declared, "The police will be deploying appropriately for the Edo election, as the IGP has already briefed Nigerians." We met with the strategic commanders, DPOs, area commanders, deputy commissioners of police, and commissioner of police today (Wednesday). These individuals are responsible for leading and supervising at different levels.

''It is our responsibility to create a calm environment for the free, fair and credible election. We are working with sister agencies as we cannot work in isolation.”

The states of Kogi, Delta, Ondo, and Anambra border Edo on land. Mbah gave his word that the Nigerian Army's soldiers would guard these, adding, "The Navy will also provide security on the waterways." We will collaborate with other security agencies during the election.

We are also offering the public a dedicated phone number, 07025000383, to report any disturbances. This phone number will be with me, and my PA will have it if it is with me for operational reasons.

The detective investigating the police praised the security personnel, stating that they "have been conducting raids at known criminal hideouts." While some people have been arrested, the majority of the raids are intelligently directed, target-oriented, and intended to isolate criminal elements within the state.
"The raid is still ongoing while we prepare to offer sufficient security for this election."
