EPL: Man Utd ‘deserve to lose’ against Everton, says Amorim
Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim provided a candid evaluation of his team's performance after their unsatisfactory loss to Everton, acknowledging that his squad rightfully deserved to be defeated in the Premier League match.
As reported by BBC Sports on Tuesday, Amorim stated post-match that United could not keep up with Everton's intensity and quality, even though they had a numerical advantage for over 70 minutes.
When asked to summarize his team's performance, Amorim remarked, "They were the superior team. We deserved to lose.
"Twenty minutes into the game, the opponent received a red card. We must win this game regardless of the circumstances."
Everton managed to navigate a remarkable incident at Old Trafford on Monday when Idrissa Gueye was dismissed for striking teammate Michael Keane, leading to a 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
“Old Trafford was there saying ‘we are all here to give a big step up’ and I felt that we were not ready.
“Again, these five weeks, when everyone is praising our evolution, I’m always saying the same things. We are not even near what we’re supposed to be in this club,” Amorim added.
The club invested £250 million during the summer in an effort to elevate a squad that had fallen to an unimaginable 15th place last season.
Currently, Manchester United occupies the 10th position in the standings, situated among a cluster of four teams that features Tottenham, Everton, and Liverpool, merely three points away from the top four.
