FCT police vows to resist violent protest, deploy 4,200 officers
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has promised to put up a fight against violent protestors in the wake of the planned nationwide demonstration that is set for August 1.
4,200 police personnel, according to the police, have been sent in to defend demonstrators, maintain public order, and stop non-state actors from taking over the protests.
"Acknowledging the right of residents to protest, advises that it should be peaceful," stated Benneth Igweh, the FCT Commissioner of Police, in a statement released on Friday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officers, SP Josephine Adeh.
