FG reopens Third Mainland Bridge, LASTMA warns against speeding
The Third Mainland Bridge has undergone considerable restoration, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has advised drivers to abide by the posted speed limits.
Adebayo Toafiq, the agency's spokesperson, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday.
In addition to installing technology devices linked to traffic, he advised drivers to heed all traffic signs.
The Third Mainland Bridge is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, April 4, 2024, according to a March 30 announcement made by the Lagos State Government.
This was said in a message posted on his X account on Saturday by Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner of Transportation.
The declaration said, "Dear Lagos citizens, We are happy to announce that, following significant renovations, full operations of the Third Mainland Bridge will resume on April 4, 2024.
The bridge rehabilitation project as well as other Federal Government projects in Lagos were inspected by the National Assembly Joint Committee on Works in late March.
Taofiq stated that LASTMA would send out people, patrol cars, and recovery vehicles on the bridge to ensure motorist safety and swift rescue operations.
"The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has issued a warning to drivers to observe speed limits when travelling on the extensive section of the recently refurbished Third Mainland Bridge that connects the state's mainland with other regions," he stated.
In order to prevent needless speeding on the bridge and other state-wide connecting highways, motorists must be aware of the passing of time and plan their route ahead of time.
"More men would be deployed by the agency for patrol and recoveryvehicles to ensure the safety of motorists and timely rescue intervention on the bridge.”
