Fire guts section of Alaba Market in Lagos

A portion of the Alaba International Market in Lagos State was consumed by flames on Tuesday evening, resulting in the destruction of goods and property whose value has yet to be determined.

Footage shared on X depicted thick smoke and flames emanating from the furniture section of the market, situated near the Ojo Local Government Secretariat in Ojo town.

An X user, Ikechukwu Ude, who posted videos from the scene, reported that the fire ignited from "a small spark" before swiftly spreading to neighboring shops. In another video, traders were seen standing at a distance, visibly upset as their shops were engulfed in flames.

It remained uncertain whether personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service or other emergency responders had reached the scene at the time the videos were captured. Eyewitnesses could be heard pleading for assistance and criticizing market security staff for their slow response.
