Fuel scarcity: NNPCL yet to lift petrol from Dangote Refinery – Spokesman
Reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, or NNPCL, has begun removing fuel from its refinery were refuted by the Dangote Group on Thursday.
According to reports, NNPCL sold Nigerians gasoline that it had stolen from the Dangote Refinery for N897 a litre.
Aliko Dangote, the chairman of the Dangote Group, announced that the refinery is prepared to start producing and selling petroleum products at the same time as the report was released.
The Dangote Group's Group Chief of Branding and Communications, Anthony Chiejina, stated that NNPCL had not yet begun removing fuel from the refinery.
Chiejina signed the following statement, which was published in the Business Day Newspaper on Wednesday, September 4, 2024: "Our attention has been drawn to a headline 'NNPCL lifts Dangote petrol, sells at N897 per litre'."
We would like to inform you that NNPC has not yet started to remove refined Premium Motor Spirit, or PMS—also referred to as gasoline—from our Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
Since our contract with NNPC has not yet been finalised, the question of regulating the price of petrol taken from our refinery does not arise.
"We cannot determine, fix, or influence the product price, which is under the jurisdiction of relevant government authorities. The PMS market is strictly regulated, as all oil marketers and stakeholders in the sector are aware of."
