GTB confirms attempt to hack bank’s website
A confirmed attempt to breach the domain of Guarantee Trust Bank Plc's website has been made.
Just one day after the bank renewed its domain name, there was a hacking attempt on Wednesday that resulted in a brief outage to the website, preventing users from accessing online services.
This caused a great deal of anxiety and media stories claiming that the bank's website had been copied, thereby endangering the privacy of its customers.
The bank claimed that its website was not replicated and that the incident was a failure in a statement that was provided to our correspondent on Thursday and signed by management.
By emphasising that the bank does not retain consumer information on its website, it also allayed worries about customer data being compromised.
Titled "Alleged Web Domain Hack: GTBank Provides Clarity," the statement, “Our attention has been drawn to reports in the media alleging that hackers have seized the bank’s website, cloned it, and intercepted customer data.
While there was a single instance of an attempt to compromise the domain of our website, we would like to reassure all of our stakeholders and customers that the bank's website has not been copied and that we do not keep customer information on it; as a result, there has never been a case of customer data being compromised.
The bank's information security specialists are presently restoring domain settings around-the-clock, according to the statement.
Additionally, GTBank stressed that it will always protect consumer information and asked clients to have faith in the bank's strong security protocols.
We can guarantee our clients that our website will be secure since our committed staff of information security experts is working around the clock to restore domain settings.
We assure you of our steadfast commitment to protecting client data and implore all of our customers to please ignore the assertions in these media allegations. The statement further said, "Thank you for your ongoing support.
Our correspondent's additional checks revealed that the website is currently operational.
