Henry names Olise, Ugochukwu in French Olympic squad
Lesley Ugochukwu and Michael Olise, both of Nigerian heritage, are included in France's 25-man roster for the men's football competition at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, according to legendary Arsenal player and France U-21 coach Thiery Henry.
Henry unveiled the team on Monday for the summer games, which will be held in their own country.
A noticeable absence from France's Euro 2024 squad was Olise.
Ugochukwu's case is still pending even though he has declined offers to play for Nigeria. The 20-year-old has represented France in past youth championships.
Ugochukwu, a dual national who was born in France, is the nephew of Onyekachi Apam, a 2008 Olympic silver medallist and Nigerian centre back.
After spending €27 million to join Chelsea from Stade Rennes in August 2023, the midfield player played in 12 Premier League games during the recently finished 2023–24 campaign.
Group A includes Guinea, New Zealand, and the United States, including France.
Among Henry's other players are Jean-Philippe Mateta of Crystal Palace and Alexandre Lacazette, a former attacker for Arsenal.
