Homosexuality: RCCG calls for evidence in pastor, deacon’s probe
As part of its inquiry into claims of homosexuality against two church officials, the Redeemed Christian Church of God has made a special phone line and email address available for churchgoers and the general public to provide proof.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Deacon Oke Mayowa and Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello had been suspended from their jobs due to claims of homosexual misconduct involving underage members of the church.
The Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration has been given a two-week deadline by the church to conduct a thorough investigation into the claims.
The church urged anyone with pertinent information to come forward in a statement headlined "RCCG Addresses Allegations Against Youth Ministers," which was released late Tuesday and signed by Pastor Sunday Akande, the National Overseer of the RCCG.
"We urge anyone with relevant proof that could assist our investigation to come forward. Please note that only substantiated evidence directly related to this case will be considered; other submissions will not be reviewed.
"All supporting documentation should be sent to the Special Assistant to the General Overseer [Administration] at 09039000700 or rccgadm@gmail.com. Your assistance will guarantee a comprehensive settlement and strengthen our dedication to justice," he stated.
He clarified that the church is looking into these allegations in great detail.
"Until we can fully address these allegations, the Youth Ministers have been placed on indefinite suspension and removed from all ministerial duties as a precaution," he continued.
He reaffirmed that the foundation of RCCG was based on holiness, a dedication that is evident in all of its doctrines and activities.
"We are committed to openness and will not put up with any behaviour that goes against our basic principles or conceals wrongdoing.
"We would welcome any help with this, and we ask that people or groups with tangible evidence provide the necessary details,” the statement stated.
