I lost my brother in Ibadan explosion – Survivor
One of the survivors of Tuesday night's explosion at Dejo Oyelese Street, Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State, who went by Adeleke, said he lost his older brother in the blast. An explosion in certain areas of the state capital was previously reported.
Videos of burning cars and houses with dusty clouds were also available on the internet.
According to the survivor, who spoke with Lagelu FM, a local radio station, they were playing tennis at the nearby hotel when his brother decided to go outside and take care of something. As a result of the explosion, there was a commotion that sent a sharp object flying, severing his stomach deep.
"He emerged to the front of the transformer where the incident occurred," Adeleke stated. After the cut, his intestines were removed.
He named his deceased brother as Oladipupo and mentioned that he was taken to Adeoyo General Hospital right away following the event.
After hearing an odd sound, Olaitan Okanlawon, another survivor, stated that the incident occurred at approximately 7 p.m.
"My spouse and the children were inside with me. We also noticed odd vibrations and noises, but it wasn't until we noticed debris outside the window that we could make sense of them.
We have moved our belongings to the hotel and one of my children is receiving medical attention for a cut on his head," she continued.
In response, the state governor, Seyi Makinde, stated that initial security agency investigations had shown that the explosion that shook the region was caused by explosive devices that were being stored by unauthorised miners.
In addition to the Oyo State House of Assembly, the Governor's Office, the Secretariat, and the home of the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, some buildings at Ologuneru, Apete, New Garage, Bashorun, Akobo, Sango and Eleyele.
While additional investigations were still underway, Makinde, who visited the explosion scene on Tuesday night, stated that those found to be at fault would face consequences.
Tuesday night, however, the state capital of Ibadan's Bodija neighbourhood saw an explosion, as confirmed by the Oyo State Police Command.
Nonetheless, the command stated that it is still unclear how many people were injured in the incident and that enough of their men had been deployed to prevent any collapse in law and order.
