Innoson founder meets Tinubu, promises to supply CNG buses soon
Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing's founder and CEO, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, has declared that buses powered by compressed natural gas will soon provide the general public with more affordable transportation options.
Additionally, he asked Nigerians to "give him time" and be patient with the Bola Tinubu administration.
Following his exit from behind closed doors with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, Mr. Chukwuma told reporters, "I've discussed with him (President Tinubu), and soon the masses will have plenty of CNG buses on the road."
The Presidential CNG Initiative, according to the car magnate, is "the way forward" for the nation.
He clarified, saying that the government's CNG program is the finest plan for transportation in this nation because it has a lot of advantages for Nigeria.
"I was aware of this advantage even before I opened the factory to make CNG-powered cars. I started making the CNG kits prior to the announcement.
"Thus, CNG is the future for this country, and anyone who tries it today will discover that."
Following a five-day nationwide broadcast, President Tinubu pledged to provide “a million kits at extremely low or no cost to commercial vehicles that transport people and goods and who currently consume 80 per cent of the imported Premium Motor Spirit and Automotive Gas Oil”. This meeting is scheduled for Thursday.
Nigeria, according to Tinubu, has a wealth of gas and oil resources, but it has only used its gas resources to power its economy by relying only on oil-based petrol. He said that the CNG initiative would save the country N2 trillion monthly.
"We were also subsidising and paying for its use with our hard-earned foreign cash.
"We have started our Compressed Natural Gas Initiative to power our transportation economy and cut costs in order to solve this.
"This will free up our resources for increased investment in healthcare and education, as we will be able to save almost two trillion Naira a month that is currently spent to import PMS and AGO,” stated Tinubu.
