Iran Declares Five Days Of Mourning After President Raisi’s Death
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, declared on Monday that President Ebrahim Raisi would be remembered for five days following his death in a helicopter accident.
A day after Raisi and other officials died in the crash in the province of East Azerbaijan, Khamenei made an official statement saying, "I announce five days of public mourning and offer my condolences to the dear people of Iran."
Following Raisi's passing, Pakistan's prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, announced a day of mourning.
Shehbaz wrote on X, the previous Twitter platform, "Pakistan will observe a day of mourning and the flag will fly at half mast as a mark of respect for President Raisi and his companions and in solidarity with Brotherly Iran."
He continued, "I offer the Iranian nation my sincere condolences and sympathies on this terrible loss, along with the government and people of Pakistan."
"With customary courage, the great Iranian nation will overcome this tragedy."
After exchanging deadly attacks earlier this year, the Pakistani leader invited Raisi to Islamabad for a three-day visit in April with the goal of mending ties between the rivals.
