Israeli footballer in Turkey arrested over Israel-Hamas war message – Media

Several Turkish news outlets reported late Sunday that an Israeli football player had been arrested for displaying a message during a First Division match in Turkey that alluded to the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Earlier, the country’s justice minister had announced an investigation into Israeli player Sagiv Jehezkel over the incident for suspected “incitement to hate”. He was already fired by his club, Antalyaspor, for the incident.

After Jehezkel's Antalyaspor team defeated Trabsonspor, he celebrated by revealing a message that said, "100 days." 07/10" on his left wrist wrapped in a bandage.

The message alluded to the tragic 100-day mark of the Israel-Hamas conflict, which was reached on Sunday.

“The Antalya public prosecutor’s office has opened a judicial investigation against Israeli footballer Sagiv Jehezkel for public incitement to hate due to his odious celebration in favour of the massacre committed by Israel in Gaza,” said Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc on ‘X’.

He went on to say, "We will continue to support the oppressed Palestinians," criticising the "genocide" he claimed was still going on in Gaza.
