IWD: Akpabio: Nigerian Women: A Unique Breed, Complete Package

In honour of the 2024 International Day of Women, Senate President Godswill Akpabio thanked women and that they should be treated with the utmost respect.

Nigerian women are a unique breed and the whole package, according to Akpabio, who singled them out for praise in a statement honouring the women that was signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, on Friday.

Celebrating the Nigerian woman's tenacious attitude, Akpabio acknowledged her everyday challenges and characterised her as tenacious, hardworking, and unflinching.

As it is widely acknowledged that "Train a woman and you train a nation," he said the celebration's theme, "Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress," was appropriate. Without investing in women, no nation can flourish.

President of the Senate assured that the National Assembly under his chairmanship will continue to advocate for the improved welfare of our women adding that “We are very conscious that failure to invest in women is akin to killing development and destroying a nation”
He claimed that the 2024 International Women's Day (IWD) campaign theme, "Inspire inclusion," aligned with the views of the 10th Senate, which is diligently striving to pass legislation that would support women's rights, prevent sexual exploitation, and increase the enrollment of girls in school.

"I would like to take this opportunity to honour our moms and sisters, the ladies in our community, on International ladies's Day. I literally wish our women a calm and productive celebration on behalf of the Senate, the National Assembly, my family, and the Constituents of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

"You are the greatest, and I truly appreciate you," I must say.
