Joke Silva narrates last moments with Onyeka Onwenu

The late singer Onyeka Onwenu's final moments with veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva have been revealed.

Leading vocalist Onyeka Onwenu passed away in July 2024 following a fall during CEO of Emzor Pharmaceuticals Stella Okolie's 80th birthday party.

She was laid to rest on August 30 at the Ebony Vaults in Lagos State's Ikoyi neighbourhood.

In her most recent interview, Joke Silva described her last moments with Onwenu to media personality WithChude.

Onwenu passed away almost two hours after collapsing, rather than instantly, as Silva, a witness to the event, revealed.

"We were seated at the same table during the celebration. She approached me at one point during her performance as she was moving around the room, pulled me up, and we had a bit of a twirl.
As "One Love" was coming to a finish, she was singing it, and we both returned to our seats. I turned to gaze across the room just in time to hear Shola Momoh exclaim, "She's not well; she slumped on her chair." Afterwards, though, she was merely unconscious. Her heart was beating.

She was placed on the floor and CPR was given. We made an effort to bring her back to consciousness. We asked the on-call doctors to examine her, and they obliged. Afterwards, I visited the hospital. She remained there for around 45 minutes before she eventually passed away.
