Kwara to renovate 47-year sports hall with N2bn
At an estimated cost of N2.06 billion, the Kwara State Government plans to transform the state stadium's indoor sports hall into an ultra-modern sporting venue.
In 1977, the sports hall was built under the command of Brigadier-General Agbazika Innih (retired).
The state's sports commission chairman, Bola Magaji, stated in an interview with sports writers in Ilorin on Wednesday that the indoor sports hall had become decadent due to negligence on the part of previous administrations.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, according to Magaji, is committed to restoring the stadium to its former glory. He also stated that the indoor sports hall rehabilitation will be finished in a year.
"Some of our athletes were even being attacked by reptiles as a result of poor maintenance." But after it's completely refurbished, the sports hall will be even better than it was. Numerous developments will take place, and as it will host both domestic and international competitions, it will grow into a major tourist destination.
As a result of athletes converging in the state whenever sporting events are scheduled within the stadium, "sales among business outlets and offices in the stadium will increase while hotels in the state capital and surroundings will get improved patronage."
Magaji went on to say that the state government's goal in developing sports was to bring young people off the streets and into better citizens.
