Lagos sex worker stabs client to death over service fee
A sex worker, Joy Kelvin, has allegedly stabbed a 48-year-old man named simply as Okafor to death in the Jakande Housing Estate in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
It was reported that the incident happened on Monday at roughly 5:30 in the morning.
Joy was invited to stay the night at the late Okafor's house, but the next morning, they got into a fight about money.
According to a police source who talked with our correspondent under the condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to discuss the case, the suspect fatally struck her client with a sharp object.
The previous evening, Okafor took the prostitute home. When he left in the morning, she insisted on receiving her pay, but Okafor refused to give it to her. Joy grabbed a sharp item and stabbed him after they got into a fight. After the attack, Okafor lost consciousness and eventually passed away.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the state police, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the friend of the deceased had reported it to the nearby Ilasan Police Division.
He stated that a team of police detectives visited the location, took photographs, and evacuated the corpse to the General Hospital Morgue, Yaba, for autopsy.
He wrote, "A complainant reported to the Ilasan Division today, October 7, 2024, at approximately 07:20 hours, that earlier that day, at about 05:32 hours, he received a call from a friend stating that Okafor, a 48-year-old male, who is also his friend, was stabbed in his house at Jakande Housing Estate, Lekki, Lagos, by Joy Kelvin, a female prostitute he had brought home overnight.
After being taken to the General Hospital in Marina, Lagos, the victim was declared dead by the attending physician. Detectives from the division quickly went to the area after receiving the report, took pictures, removed the body, and placed it in the General Hospital mortuary in Yaba for preservation and autopsy.
Hundeyin further reported that the suspect had been apprehended while efforts were underway to locate the deceased’s family members. “The investigation is ongoing,” the statement concluded.
