Lagos shuts popular club over noise pollution
The popular Vertigo Bar on Victoria Island was closed by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency due to noise pollution, as a result of complaints from the locals.
According to the agency, the club's closure was a necessary step in its fight against environmental violations and preservation of Lagos residents' quality of life.
"This enforcement action followed a thorough assessment by LASEPA, revealing that Vertigo Bar's activities significantly contributed to noise pollution in the area," a statement released on Monday stated.
Residents' complaints prompted this quick action to restore order and guarantee compliance with environmental regulations.
"The purpose of this action is to send a warning to other businesses in the state whose operations cause noise pollution."
Churches, pubs, nightclubs, event centres, and other businesses were sealed by LASEPA on October 1, 2023, due to noise pollution.
The state's Lagos Island, Ojudu, Ogba, Magodo, and Ikosi regions are home to the impacted businesses.
