Lagos taskforce arrests eight people for open defecation

Due to open defecation in the Berger area of the state, the Lagos State Government has detained eight people.

The lawsuit follows multiple alerts from the state administration regarding the state's unsanitary practices.

Tokunbo Wahab, the state commissioner for environment and water resources, verified the eight men's arrests in a video posted on X.com on Monday.

He added that members of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, whose cars have been positioned in the vicinity ever since the state government started clearing the median on the Berger segment of the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway, were responsible for the arrest.

The public found the surroundings uncomfortable because the median had been heavily vandalised by urine and excrement.

The government cleared the median last month and vowed to prosecute violators.
Wahab stated, "Eight people were arrested at Berger for open defecation and urination last (Sunday) night during a monitoring and enforcement operation by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps Task Force team."

Nine more people were arrested by Task Force representatives in late August after they were discovered defecating in the open in the vicinity.
