LASUTH prepared for cholera outbreak in Lagos – Management

According to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, it is ready to handle any potential cholera outbreaks in Lagos and is on red alert.

In reaction to the five deaths and numerous hospitalised individuals exhibiting symptoms of the sickness in Lagos, the management of LASUTH announced that it had placed its healthcare staff on high alert and other relevant parties on notice in anticipation of a potential spread.

The message says as follows: "This is to inform the general public that due to the cholera outbreak in Lagos, the management of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, has implemented precautionary measures."

It is documented that numerous patients exhibiting symptoms consistent with cholera presented to various medical facilities throughout the state yesterday, Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

Since our hospital is a referral facility, it is crucial to notify the public that LASUTH, the only state-owned tertiary healthcare centre, is on red alert. Additionally, our healthcare staff and other stakeholders have been placed on notice to be ready for any potential spread.

"In addition, among the measures being implemented by the management are proper treatment of those presenting with symptoms of gastroenteritis, clean water supply at all service points, and good hygiene practices.

"To help slow the spread of the disease, everyone is urged to remain informed and take preventive action."
