May Day: We are better off working as a team, Uzodimma tells labour

Governor Hope Uzodimma reaffirmed his administration's commitment to collaborating with labour leaders at a meeting with the recently elected executive members of the Imo State organised labour unions.

On Monday, Governor Uzodimma welcomed the union representatives to the Government House, congratulating them on their appointments and pledging his support for their efforts to protect the interests of workers throughout the state.

As a team, we will perform better. Uzodimma addressed previous issues with the national union leadership by saying, "There is better understanding now."

The governor also approved Organised Labour's request to hold their annual convention in Imo State later this year, with the governor promising to make it an unforgettable occasion that surpasses previous conventions held elsewhere, according to a statement released on Monday by the governor's chief press secretary and media adviser, Oguwike Nwachuku.
Uzodimma called for harmony and moderation among the leaders, acknowledging the leadership of Uche Nwigwe, the head of the trade unions in Imo State. He counselled, "Work together, reduce your greed, and increase your tolerance."

Nwigwe congratulated the governor in his speech for his worker-friendly policies, mentioning civil service reform, free medical care, free transportation, timely wage and pension payments, worker advancements, and the recent pledge to pay retiree gratuities.

Nwigwe invited the governor to Workers' Day celebrations on May 1, which he called “the workers’ own Christmas,” and told Uzodimma that he would be willing to collaborate with the governor to bring about the desired peace for Imo State.

Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie, the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the State Government Chief Cosmos Iwu, and other senior government officials were also present at the meeting.
