Minimum wage: Strike continues pending Tuesday review meeting -NLC
The deal reached with the Federal Government during Monday's meeting would not end the current nationwide strike, according to the Nigeria Labour Congress.
The labour unrest that has paralysed the country's economy will last until Tuesday's union organs meeting, where all of Monday's resolutions are anticipated to be reviewed, according to a post made by the congress on X on Tuesday.
The post stated, "We are still on strike until we hear from our organs at our meeting scheduled for today, June 4."
Following a six-hour meeting in Abuja with the leaders of organised labour, the Federal Government announced President Bola Tinubu's intention to increase the N60,000 minimum salary.
As to the agreement, "The Tripartite Committee will meet daily for the next week to finalise an agreeable National Minimum Wage; and the President of Nigeria, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, is committed to establishing a National Minimum Wage higher than N60,000."
Additionally, the organised labour promised that no worker would be victimised as a result of taking part in the industrial action, and that "immediately hold meetings of its organs to consider this new offer."
Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris and Minister of State for Labour and Employment Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha signed these resolutions on behalf of the Federal Government.
Joe Ajaero, the President of the National Labour Congress, and Festus Osifo, the President of the Trade Union Congress, represented organised labour.
