NOUN admission seekers now mandated to register with JAMB

It is now required that applicants for admission to the Nigerian Open University of Nigeria and other open distance learning institutions register on Monday through the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board.

Additionally, it is required of the candidates to register using their individual National Identity Number.

Our correspondent discovered that the purpose of this move was to thwart illicit activity. The Board committed to ensuring a smooth registration process in a statement issued by JAMB and provided to our correspondent in Abuja.

According to the advisory, "JAMB has mandated that all applicants desiring to study in Nigerian tertiary institutions must provide their NIN while registering for any programme of study in any tertiary institutions in Nigeria, irrespective of whether the mode of study is regular or non-regular, as part of measures to checkmate the nefarious activities of fraudulent characters, who are scheming to compromise candidates’ records through dubious registration channels and in compliance with its enabling act."

As a result, all potential candidates in the non-regular category (NOUN, Distance Learning, Part-time, and Sandwich programmes) must now create a profile code before registering with JAMB. They can do this by sending their NIN to either of the Board's sort codes (55019 or 66019) using their unique phone number.

The advice further stated that in order to use any of the Board's services, any former applicants in the non-regular programmes who had not integrated their NIN or unique phone number on the platform would need to create a profile using their respective NINs.

"JAMB, being an adaptable company, will persist in offering the registration procedure maximum flexibility by maintaining its platform's accessibility all year round. Therefore, it is anticipated that students who fit this description will apply via JAMB before contacting their chosen colleges to complete their admissions process using their unique JAMB registration numbers. Additionally, they would be required to pay a processing fee that each institution would establish.
