NPF to celebrate 70 years of women in policing

The Nigeria Police Force has revealed its intention to commemorate 70 years of women's involvement in policing, celebrating seven decades of bravery, resilience, and service since the initial group of female officers was recruited in 1955.

As stated by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Wednesday, the celebration is set to take place from December 3 to 4, 2025, and will unite both serving and retired female officers along with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The statement emphasized that this milestone "highlights the essential role of women in enhancing law enforcement and building community trust throughout the nation."

Furthermore, the IGP praised the significant contributions of female officers to the operational efficiency and public perception of the Force, asserting that their "commitment and compassion have remained fundamental to the foundation of policing in Nigeria."

"Throughout the last seven decades, women in the Nigeria Police Force have excelled in administration, investigations, tactical operations, and leadership roles," the statement noted. "They have exemplified integrity, empathy, and excellence in their service to the nation, redefining policing with compassion and purpose."

Planned activities for the anniversary include a national lecture, a historical exhibition, interactive panel discussions, and an outreach program.

The Force stated that the celebration reinforces the IGP’s dedication to fostering inclusivity, professionalism, and ongoing capacity building for women in policing.

"The Nigeria Police Force expresses its sincere gratitude to all female officers, both past and present, whose bravery and professionalism continue to be a source of pride and inspiration for the institution and the nation," the statement concluded.
