One died, 18 rescued in Jigawa boat accident

In the Auyo Local Government Area of Zamfara State, twenty traders were travelling by canoe from Kwalgai village to Hadin when an accident occurred, and no fewer than eighteen people were saved.

The Jigawa State Police Command stated on Monday that the canoe capsized as a result of strong waves and overloading to the point where the operator lost control of the canoe, according to an initial investigation.

Speaking from the state capital of Dutse, the spokesperson for the Command, Lawan Adam, stated that divers, fishermen, and good samaritans were promptly alerted to the area, and a team of police officers headed by the Divisional Police Officer hurried to try and save the victims.

Adam stated, "Eighteen passengers were successfully rescued alive by the rescue squad, while two female passengers are still missing.”
Then he revealed that "one Habiba Ado 'f' age 18yrs of Kwalgai, who was among the two females missing, has been rescued on July 8, 2024, at about 0600hrs," and that she was taken to the hospital right away.

Adam stated, "The rescued victims have already been rushed to the hospital for medical attention, while efforts were being intensified to rescue the missing woman."
