Pastor Okafor publicly apologises to actress Doris Ogala, kneels before congregation
On Sunday, Chris Okafor, the Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, publicly expressed his regret to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, kneeling before his congregation in search of forgiveness for previous "mistakes."
This apology arises amidst a contentious public dispute that has taken social media by storm, with Ogala accusing Okafor of infidelity, failing to uphold marriage promises, disseminating explicit material, and offering her $10,000 to retract her assertions that she was employed by rival pastors to tarnish his reputation.
In a widely circulated video shared by @NigeriaStories on X on Sunday, Okafor is depicted at the pulpit, holding a microphone and addressing the congregation.
"Listen, we’re not engaging in disputes. Mistakes have occurred in the past, and I extend an apology to everyone," Okafor stated.
He specifically mentioned Ogala, saying, "I apologize to everyone I have wronged, including Doris Ogala. I express my regret and apologize to all whom I have offended."
Okafor emphasized his readiness to make reparations, stating, "I am prepared to make restitution to anyone, any individual, any woman I have wronged. I am sorry. Please forgive me."
Recognizing his flaws, he remarked, "I am not perfect; I have never been perfect."
The pastor then knelt before the church, a gesture that elicited applause from the congregation, as he continued, "I am kneeling before everyone and before the church. Please forgive me. You are free to judge me. Pray for me."
Despite the apology, Okafor asserted that "everything that was said is not true," claiming that many of Ogala’s allegations were filled with "numerous falsehoods."
This stance seemed to escalate the controversy, as Ogala responded during an Instagram Live session, offering him forgiveness but disputing his assertion that she fabricated the accusations.
The apology occurs in the context of ongoing controversy ignited by Ogala’s allegations that Okafor had promised to marry her after purportedly contributing to the dissolution of her prior relationship earlier this month.
This followed the cleric’s marriage to his new spouse, identified as Pearl, which reportedly took place shortly after.
Okafor reportedly continued with the ceremony despite Ogala's viral claims of betrayal, emotional manipulation, and breaking a promise of marriage following an alleged long-term relationship.
In multiple videos shared earlier this month, Ogala emotionally accused Okafor of destroying her life after a relationship she asserted lasted several years, starting around 2017.
She claimed that she ended her previous marriage at his suggestion and experienced emotional turmoil when the relationship was suddenly ended.
Okafor had previously rejected the allegations, stating that he would allow legal authorities to handle the situation.
Nevertheless, ongoing public pressure and Ogala's determination to stand her ground seem to have led the cleric to issue a public apology.
