Police Arrest 15 Suspects Over Looting Of Abuja Warehouse

In connection with the looting of a nearby warehouse, police authorities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have detained fifteen individuals.

In the Abuja neighbourhood of Tasha, some locals stole Sunday morning from a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Department of Agriculture facility.

However, the police authority of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said hours after the event that 15 people had been apprehended for the warehouse looting.

"A statement from the FCT Police Command stated that they are fully aware of the impulsive attack on the Agric Department Strategic food store in Tasha, Abuja, on March 3, 2024, by some angry mobs, which resulted in the vandalism and looting of the warehouse."

"The Command wishes to announce that the situation is under control and that the environment has returned to normal after fifteen (15) suspects, including two local security guards who work for the warehouse management, were taken into custody. Five motorcycles, twenty-six (26) bags of maize, and some vandalised aluminium roofing were among the exhibits found on the accused.

soaring living expenses
Nigeria is experiencing severe economic distress, which coincides with the warehouse looting on Sunday. With President Bola Tinubu's announcement that gasoline subsidies would no longer be paid, the cost of living has increased and inflation has hit new highs, with a rate of 29.90 percent in January.

Protests broke out across the nation as a result of his government's floating of the naira, which made matters worse.

Palliative care and other measures were introduced by the Federal Government as soon as possible to mitigate the effects of the reforms. But it doesn't seem like they've taken much action to solve the issue. Following the elimination of fuel subsidies and the ensuing hardship, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) staged nationwide protests last week in response to the government's failure to abide by the union's demands.

Asserting that the reforms cannot be reversed, President Tinubu is urging patience until his government's reforms take hold.
