President Tinubu Inaugurates Lagos Red Line Rail
The Red Line Rail Project in Lagos has been officially opened by President Bola Tinubu. The 37-kilometer project is an intra-state rail service that aims to improve city transport.
Lagos Red Line Rail is inaugurated by President Tinubu.
The President reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing the country's infrastructure development during the project's inauguration.
He added that there is no turning back from the reforms his administration implemented, which have raised the cost of necessities.
However, we are not turning back from the revolution that has already begun and the reform that is still going on. The design, the building, the reaffirmation of our commitment to national loyalty. One thing is for certain, though: there is a very brilliant light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu abolished currency controls and gasoline subsidies after taking office last year. As a result, living expenses have increased and petrol prices have tripled as the value of the naira has depreciated against the dollar.
The National Bureau of Statistics reports that in January, the nation's inflation rate approached thirty percent.
The President acknowledged that corruption will continue to thrive despite the efforts of the current administration to combat it.
"We said we could do it, and you believed in us," he remarked. You believed in us when we told that people's lives will ultimately get better. I can hear a lot of voices now; I applied for this job, so I can't really complain because democracy is everything.
"Smugglers will fight back, and corruption will fight back, I agree. To ruin, we shall battle them. Corruption will disappear, so keep the cash for our children's education, our nation's healthcare system, and a cutting-edge transit network that serves the greatest amount of people—not just a select few smugglers.
The Lagos-Kano Standard Gauge Railway will share the right-of-way with the red line. Initially, the line will connect Agbado in Ogun State with Oyingbo in Lagos. Notable stations along the way include Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and Oyingbo.
For the occasion on Wednesday, the President had travelled into the state.
New Developmental Pace
According to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the commissioning of the Lagos Red Line project aims to change the metropolitan landscape and accelerate growth in addition to enhancing transportation inside the city.
The Lagos State governor said, "we're opening doors to opportunities, growth, and a sustainable future" by connecting key places around Lagos in a brief statement posted on X (previously Twitter).
The Lagos Red Line was tested by the governor on Saturday before President Bola Tinubu officially launched the project today.
He went on to say that the LMRT Red Line's commissioning is "a generational leap for our city" and that it goes beyond simply being a project.
Key bus terminals at Oyingbo, Yaba, Oshodi, Ikeja, and Iju are integrated by the 37-kilometer Red Line rail line.
This launch serves as an example of what is possible when we set lofty goals and collaborate. Our goal of establishing Lagos as a world-class urban model metropolis is based in large part on the LMRT Red Line.
The governor urged Lagosians and everyone else, "Let's ride into a brighter, more connected future together."
