Retired police officers storm N’Assembly, protest over unpaid pensions

Tuesday saw a storming of the National Assembly in Abuja by Nigerian retired police officers who are part of the contributory pension programme. They were protesting several months' worth of unpaid pensions.

Retirees from several state chapters bemoaned the extreme challenges they had to endure since the National Pension Commission had not paid their benefits.
Retired police officers are pushing for their exclusion from the contributory pension plan by the federal government.

Retired police officers have previously demonstrated.
Retired officers from 27 states overran the National Assembly in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, in September 2021, demanding their pensions.

Signs reading "NPF pension defrauding police retirees, SOS," "Police officers are dying in penury under the contributory pension scheme," and "CPS is a death sentence against police!" were put up during the 2021 demonstration."
