Tinubu to receive Super Falcons at Aso Villa after WAFCON triumph

After winning the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Falcons will be welcomed by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

After defeating the Atlas Lionesses of host country Morocco in an exciting final played in Rabat, Morocco, the Falcons secured their tenth continental championship over the weekend.

A number of formal events are planned to commemorate the team's outstanding performance, which has once again raised Nigeria's profile in African women's football, including the presidential reception.

The team is being received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, and Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, together with a number of federal ministers.

Celebrations around the country have been triggered by the Falcons' return, and many Nigerians have praised the squad for their perseverance, self-control, and resolve during the competition.

Following Nigeria's impressive run to win their tenth continental title, four Super Falcons players—Rashidat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie—have been selected for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations Best XI.

The Confederation of African Football Women announced the tournament's top players on Sunday through its official X handle, which was once Twitter.

“The stars who shined the brightest. Meet your Best XI of the tournament,” CAF Women wrote.

Ajibade, who was instrumental throughout the tournament, was voted Player of the Tournament.

The Atletico Madrid forward also claimed Woman of the Match honours in three of Nigeria’s six games, underlining her leadership and attacking flair.

Okoronkwo equally impressed, notching two goals and four assists.

Her attacking contributions proved vital in Nigeria’s title run.

Nnadozie was named the Best Goalkeeper after keeping four clean sheets, cementing her reputation as one of the continent’s safest hands.

Defender Alozie, who played every minute of Nigeria’s campaign, also earned a spot on the list.

Her decisive late winner against South Africa in the semi-final was one of the most memorable moments of the tournament.
