Travellers kidnapped, one shot on Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway

Around 8 p.m. on Sunday, a group of gunmen on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Motorway reportedly kidnapped twenty or more travellers, one of whom was shot in the knee.

According to reports, the gunmen ambushed the travellers between Ilisan Township and the Nigeria Police's Sagamu Area Command.

Wemmy Osude, the chairman of the Ilisan Development Council, attested to this.

One of the attack victims, an Ilisan Remo resident, was reportedly already receiving medical care at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, according to Osude.

The Area Command and Ilisan City Gate (previously Delabo) were involved in an abduction incident, according to information that has reached him.

"There are reports that an Ilisan resident (name not confirmed) was shot in the knee and is undergoing medical attention at Babcock Teaching Hospital.
"They carried other victims into the bush. Please be cautious and get in touch with any loved ones who might be on that route at this time while you wait for more information.

According to Osude, he spoke with the local resident receiving treatment at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, and he was said to be in stable condition.

"I have discussed this incident with the Sagamu Area Commander, and hopefully, we trust that all the security agents will pursue these criminals and rescue these people," he continued.

Prior to this event, two other people were recently abducted, and Prof. Yinka Olomojobi of Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, was murdered at the Ajadeh Event Centre, located along Iperu-Sagamu Road, Iperu Remo, inthe Ikenne Local Government area.
Olomojobi was a gender law and human rights lecturer.

Calls to SP Omolola Odutola, the spokeswoman for the Ogun State Police Command, were not answered, thus attempts to gain her response were futile.

The state Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the kidnapping in a statement on Monday. They claimed that the victim's vehicle was blocked by the kidnappers as they followed him to a rough area of the road and then forced him into their van.

According to Odutola, "A man driving a grey Toyota RAV4 Jeep with the licence plate Lagos - AGL-16-JE was followed by a group of armed people driving an unregistered Venza Toyota car until they reached a rough area on the road and blocked the victim's car."

"The robbers blasted one shot into the driver's front tyre and four bullets into the driver's back tyre, which are thought to have been from an AK-47. The thugs immediately got out of their car, pushed the Toyota Rav 4's driver into their waiting Venza Jeep, and drove off in the direction of Ijebu-Ode.

"The driver of a black Toyota Camry automobile with the licence plate Lagos - AAA-04-JB was also shot by the thugs during the event, suffering injuries to his left leg as he tried to make a U-turn. In addition, thieves stopped a bus driver in the Ilisan region of Abuja who was heading to Lagos. They broke the bus's windscreen and stole the driver's cell phone, telling him to be careful because he wasn't their target.

The "damaged driver has been promptly taken to Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ilisan for treatment and is currently responding to treatment," according to the head of the police department.
She mentioned that two cars were damaged but that there were no casualties from the incident.
