Troops Rescue 16 Abductees In Kajuru, Kaduna

16 victims who had been kidnapped in Kajuru, Kaduna State, have been freed by Nigerian Army troops from the I Division.

Additionally, they stopped an extremist group's effort to kidnap them.

In a statement released late on Monday, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the director of Army Public Relations, said, "The Nigerian Army troops deployed in 1 Division area of responsibility in Kaduna State have successfully averted a kidnap attempt by a violent extremist and insurgent group and rescued the abductees in Tantatu Community of Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State."

He claims that on Sunday night, the army tracked down the rebels who had kidnapped several people in the village in response to intelligence.

According to the statement, "the troops fiercely pursued the insurgents upon arriving at the scene of the incident, engaging them in a fierce exchange of fire and consequently rescuing 16 kidnapped victims."

"The troops are continuing to use the bushes as cover for their nefarious activities by conducting search and rescue operations to free more victims."

Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, praised the forces for their successful mission after the rescue and tasked them with continuing to undertake counter-insurgency operations with vigilance in order to liberate all of the country's difficult areas.
