U-17 Women’s W’Cup: Olowookere eyes more positive results
Nigerian coach Bankole Olowookere hopes to secure further success at the 2024 FIFA Women's U-17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic, following his team's 4-1 thumping of New Zealand in Wednesday night's Group A opener at Cibao Stadium in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.
The decisive victory put the heavyweights of Africa at the top of the group, which also includes Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.
Nigeria entered the competition with much anticipation following their strong third-place showing in the India 2022 edition.
During a press conference held after the game, Olowookere stated that the team's goal was to achieve further success.

In an effort to advance to the knockout stages, the Flamingos will play again on Saturday, October 19, in their second group matchup against Ecuador. On October 22, they will take on the Dominican Republic.
Since the competition's start in 2008, Nigeria has taken part in all of its iterations, making it to the quarterfinals in 2010, 2012, and 2014. In the 2022 edition, they defeated the USA in the quarterfinals to get to their first-ever semi-finals, shattering the previous eight jinx.
