U-17 Women’sWorld Cup: Flamingos to face Mexico in friendly

As the U-17 World Cup grows closer, the Flamingos, the women's team from Nigeria, will play a friendly match against Mexico.

Nigeria is one of the sixteen nations that will compete in the World Cup, which the Dominican Republic will be hosting.

The competition is scheduled for October 16–November 3.

On June 22, the tournament's eighth edition was drawn in Santo Domingo, where a number of exciting matches amongst the four groups took place.

Group A contained the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand as hosts, while holders Spain was grouped with the United States, the Republic of Korea, and Colombia. Nigeria was assigned to Group A.

Additional African delegates Kenya is scheduled to play Korea, the DPR, Mexico, and England in Group C, with Japan, Poland, Brazil, and Zambia completing the final group.
A source within the Nigeria Football Federation claims that Mexico suggested a friendly match between them and Nigeria during the Santo Domingo draws.
The insider stated, "The federation is looking at the possibility of having friendly games for them because we want to get the girls in tune on time for the tournament."

"We hope we can have something similar with the new girls, given how successful the tour of Turkey was. Fortunately, Mexico has already expressed interest in submitting a proposal, having announced its plans during the Santo Domingo draws.

"We're looking into it and hoping to come up with something to help the girls get ready for the competition."

Nigeria aspires to follow in the footsteps of past champions DPR Korea, the Korean Republic, France, Japan, and Spain by being the sixth nation to lift the trophy.

In the CAF final round of qualifying, the African heavyweights defeated Liberia 6-1 on aggregate to guarantee their ticket at the World Cup.
