AFCON: I’m still feeling pain, Nwabali gives update on injury
Stanley Nwabali, the custodian for the Super Eagles, provided an update on his injury sustained during Nigeria's 2-0 victory over Cameroon on Saturday.
The Super Eagles defeated their bitter rivals thanks to two goals from Ademola Lookman, securing a quarterfinal matchup with Angola.
Victor Osimhen found the Atalanta forward inside the box, and he opened the score in the 36th minute.
In the end, Lookman poached home to give the three-time champions a 2-0 victory.
Nwabali was replaced by Francis Uzoho in the 80th minute due to discomfort he was experiencing from a collision with Georges-Kevin N'Koudou.
The Chippa United goalie told the media following the game that while he was still experiencing some pain, he would have to wait for the doctor's report.
"Maybe the doctor could tell, but I'm still experiencing pain," the patient said. You always feel pain when an injury is new, he said.
Nwabali's injury is still being evaluated by the team's medical staff, according to Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro, but he is optimistic that Nwabali will play for Nigeria in the quarterfinals.
At Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Friday, the Super Eagles will take on Angola in an attempt to advance to the semi-finals.
