Celtic sack manager Nancy after eight games

Celtic Football Club announced on Monday the dismissal of manager Wilfried Nancy after only eight matches at the helm of the Scottish champions, during which his squad experienced six losses.

The 3-1 defeat at home against rivals Rangers on Saturday triggered widespread protests outside Celtic Park and proved to be the tipping point.

"Celtic Football Club today announces that it has decided to terminate the contract of manager Wilfried Nancy with immediate effect," stated a club announcement.

The Glasgow giants also confirmed that the Frenchman's coaching staff, along with Paul Tisdale, the head of football operations, have departed from the club.

Nancy, who held the managerial position for just over a month, leaves the Hoops six points adrift of Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts, although they remain in second place.

The 48-year-old former Columbus Crew manager had signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Celtic.

Under interim manager Martin O’Neill, the Glasgow club had secured seven victories in their eight matches, but their performance deteriorated under Nancy, who assumed control in early December.

He began his league campaign poorly, culminating in a 3-1 loss to St Mirren in the Scottish League Cup final.

O’Neill, a previous full-time manager of Celtic, had been serving as caretaker following Brendan Rodgers' resignation in October.
