Alleged bullying: FG suspends 13 FGC Enugu students

Due to allegations of bullying at the Federal Government College in Enugu State, the Federal Government has placed 13 students on six-week suspension.

Folashade Boriowo, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Education, made this announcement in Abuja on Wednesday.

A viral video that showed some of the school's students bullying others led Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa to order the students' suspension.

Alausa reiterated the ministry's steadfast dedication to preserving a secure and comfortable learning environment in all of the nation's federal schools.

He claims that the bullying episode at the FUC in Enugu was the subject of a recent report that the Federal Ministry of Education received, raising serious concerns regarding safety and discipline within the school environment.

The report read, ”The findings of the ministry, the incident involved the gang assault of an SS1 student (a day student) by a group of students on Nov. 7.

”The incident came to light showing the circulation of a disturbing video on social media platforms.
The Federal Ministry of Education responded by forming a disciplinary commission to look into the situation.

"All 13 of the students involved have been suspended for six weeks pending the investigative committee's report in light of the findings."

In order to carry out a comprehensive investigation, including any connections with other organisations, the minister also instructed the School Based Management Committee to work with security authorities.

He also stated that urgent steps had been taken to improve security at the College by examining current safety procedures and enlisting law enforcement officers.

He added, "To address all types of issues and encourage their reintegration into a positive school environment, counselling and rehabilitation support will be provided."
