Ayodele, new VC for Ekiti University
Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele has been appointed as the new vice chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, by Ekiti state governor Biodun Oyebanji.
Ayodele, a professor of education management, serves as the university's deputy vice chancellor (academic) pending appointment.
Effective August 20, 2024, Prof. Ayodele will serve as Vice Chancellor.
Prof. Edward Olanipekun, whose term as the university's vice chancellor expires on August 19, 2024, gives way to him.
On August 13, 1963, Prof. Joseph Babatola Ayodele was born in Ikere-Ekiti, Ikere Local Government Area, Ekiti State. He studied from 1974 to 1979 at Annunciation School in Ikere, Ekiti. He then continued on to the Ondo State College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti, where he studied from 1982 to 1985 for the Nigeria Certificate in Education.
He was awarded a First Class Bachelor of Education (B.ed) degree in Economics from the Ondo State University, (now Ekiti State University), Ado- Ekiti in 1992. He also bagged a Master’s degree in Education Management from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan in 1997; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education Management from same University in 2000.
In 1995, Prof. Ayodele began his academic career at Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University), Ado-Ekiti, as a graduate assistant. He advanced through the ranks to become a professor in 2012.
In addition to acting as the acting head of the Department of Educational Foundations and Management from 2010 to 2012, he held various positions with the university, including those of assistant director of affiliate programs from 2006 to 2008, dean of the faculty of education from 2018 to 2020, director of the directorate of continuing education programs and distance learning from 2020 to 2022, and deputy vice chancellor for academic affairs from 2022 to the present.
As the university's guest governor, Governor Oyebanji, wishes the newly appointed vice chancellor well on his tenure and encourages him to use his extensive background as a scholar and seasoned administrator to further the university's goal of becoming a top-tier university.
The Governor wishes Prof. Edward Olanipekun, the departing vice chancellor of EKSU, well in his future pursuits and expresses gratitude for his distinguished contribution to the university.
