Bobrisky: Reps to investigate allegations against EFCC, NCS
On Thursday, September 26, the House of Representatives decided to look into claims of bribery made by social media personality Martins Otse, commonly known as VeryDarkMan, against the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
After a motion of urgent public interest was adopted, this resolution was passed. Patrick Umoh, who represents the Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State, sponsored the move.
Umoh voiced his worries at the meeting over the widely shared tweet by VeryDarkMan that claimed the EFCC and NCS were involved in corrupt activities.
He stated: "According to the magazine, the EFCC withdrew money laundering charges against Bobrisky, also known as Idris Okuneye, after receiving the N15,000,000 payment.
According to the publication, Idris Okuneye was not housed within the Nigeria Correctional Service after being found guilty by the court of abusing and defacing Naira. Instead, he was lodged outside the service's boundaries.
"We are troubled by the incriminating accusations made against Nigerian law enforcement agencies, the NCS and the EFCC, which were founded by these sacred chambers to fight crime and imprison criminals for correctional purposes, respectively."
After the resolution was approved, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who led the plenary session, presented it to the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions.
In order to take further action, the committee must present its findings to the House in three legislative weeks.
