BREAKING: Kidnapped Anambra lawmaker found dead near Niger Bridge

Security personnel have discovered the lifeless body of Justice Azuka, the member of the Anambra State House of Assembly who represents the Onitsha North 1 Constituency, close to the Second Niger Bridge.

According to reports, Azuka was abducted on December 24, 2024, while travelling home for Christmas along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha.

In less than five minutes, he was kidnapped at gunpoint in a quick operation.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the finding on Thursday, stating that a combined security team discovered the decaying body while on a routine patrol.

"At the second Niger Bridge in the early hours of today, June 2, 2025, the Joint Security Team, which consists of police and AVG Operatives, was on a mission to retrieve abducted Hon. Azuka, Honourable State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North, regrettably found his lifeless body at the scene.

“As soon as I get more details, I will keep you updated, as the joint security team have taken over the scene and operation is ongoing for the possible arrest of the suspects involved, please.”
After a court decision determined that Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party, who was first proclaimed the victor of the 2023 election, had lost the election, the lawmaker, a leader of the Labour Party, reclaimed his mandate.
