Demolition of buildings for Lagos-Calabar coastal road begins Saturday

The Federal Government has declared that this coming Saturday will mark the start of the demolition of buildings located within the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road's right-of-way.

Korede Keisha, the Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State, revealed this information at a press conference on Thursday in Lagos, Channels Television reported on Thursday.

Keisha asked every resident whose home has been designated for demolition to come to the ministry's Lagos secretariat so that any necessary procedures could be addressed.

She said that on Saturday, the demolition crew would start removing the properties that were marked.

According to Keisha, the purpose of this press conference is to raise awareness among all parties who might be involved or have a small task to complete related to the project corridor.
"As many people as are within the right of way have received demolition notices from us. We are now using this channel to inform everyone that has been served and has any concerns regarding that corridor that the secretariat is open to them starting at 3 p.m. today.

"They are welcome to stay with us today and tomorrow. We ask that you see us at the secretariat from this afternoon until tomorrow evening, regardless of what you need to do along that axis after we've come to you and marked you down for demolition. The demolition squad will then begin work on the first three kilometres early on Saturday morning.

"For the first three kilometres, anything within the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway's right of way will be dropped down from Saturday morning.
"Therefore, I want to use this channel to connect with as many people as we are unable to call, as I believe it will help reassure them that their problems will be resolved by tomorrow.

"Especially if you have been marked and are located between zero and three kilometres from the projects. It has been determined that you are obstructing the project corridors' right of way.

According to recent disclosures made by Minister of Works Dave Umahi, the building of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road is anticipated to take eight years and cost N4 billion per kilometre.

The 700 km Lagos-Calabar coastal road is expected to be built for N15 trillion, with each kilometre costing N4 billion.

With stops along the way in Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states, it is intended to link Lagos and Cross River.
