
Driver kills 12-year-old girl, injures sister on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway
While speeding on the BRT lane of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, an unidentified driver killed a 12-year-old girl and hurt her 15-year-old sister. Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, said in a statement issued on Tuesday that the tragic event happened at the Ogundare bus stop on Monday.
"An unidentified driver struck two female pedestrians, siblings ages 12 and 15, as they were returning from school on Monday, February 24, 2025, at approximately 3:35 p.m., while operating the BRT lane at high speed at the Ogundare bus stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway," the statement said.
According to Hundeyin, the victims were taken to Orile-Agege General Hospital for treatment after suffering serious injuries. The 12-year-old girl tragically passed away from her wounds, and her sister was subsequently taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital for additional medical attention. In addition to ordering a comprehensive investigation into the incident, Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh has advised drivers to strictly abide by speed limits, traffic laws, and safe driving practices.
The statement went on to say, "The Commissioner of Police expresses sympathy to the family who have lost a loved one and guarantees that the police will conduct a prompt and thorough investigation to bring the offender to justice.".
