FG takes over Epe general hospital

A Memorandum of Understanding for the handover of Epe General Hospital to the Federal Government was signed on Thursday by the governments of Lagos State and the Federal Government.

The Landmark Event Centre, Plots 2 and 3, Water Corporation Drive, Oniru, Victoria Island, was the location of the signing event.

The Federal Government was represented by the signature of Dr. Tunji Alausa, Minister of State for Health, while the State Government was represented by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to Jubril Gawat, Sanwo-Olu's Senior Special Assistant on New Media, the institution will now be called the Federal Medical Centre, Epe.
The FMC, Epe, will be improved by offering advanced surgical care, including open heart surgery, advanced obstetric and gynaecological services for high-risk pregnancies, state-of-the-art emergency and trauma centre, and paediatric care, among other specialised services, according to Gawat.

He also mentioned that a location has been chosen for the Federal College of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.

"This is to capitalise on the recently established Federal Medical Centre, Epe, where FEDCAM students will be placed in clinical settings," Gawat continued.

With this transfer, there are now two FMCs in the state.

Before the FMC at Epe, the FG had commissioned the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta, on November 23, 1964, according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria in August this year.
On January 31, 2005, FMC Ebute-Metta—previously the Nigerian Railway Hospital—was elevated to the status of Federal Medical Centre.
