Five die of Unidentified illness in Kebbi State university

A perplexing illness has reportedly resulted in the deaths of five students at Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero (KSUSTA), instilling fear among both students and faculty.

University sources indicated that four students passed away last week, with an additional death occurring on Sunday.

Although officials have not yet identified the cause of these fatalities, students have expressed their concerns regarding the alarming situation.

Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) conducted a meningitis awareness campaign at the university, but it remains uncertain whether the illness is connected to the recent deaths.

The university's registrar, Maimaru Alhaji Tilli, confirmed the deaths of four students but acknowledged that the cause remains undetermined.

He also pointed out that overcrowding in student housing is a significant concern. The university has requested permission from the Ministry of Higher Education to temporarily close, but approval is still awaited.

In light of the crisis, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) has called on the administration to close the institution immediately to avert further loss of life.
