Ibadan funfair tragedy: Oyo warns against unregulated Valentine Day celebrations

Corporate entities, event coordinators, and anybody else organising lavish parties for St. Valentine's Day received a strong warning from the Oyo State Government on Tuesday to make sure they follow the laws and guidelines.

In Ibadan, the state capital, Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information, revealed that numerous broadcast stations have been promoting Valentine's Day celebrations at different locations.

Security personnel must actively participate in any event planned for that day, according to Oyelade.

"To guarantee that they have the right logistics in place for smooth gatherings, all stakeholders organising such events must actively involve security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun, Operation Burst, and other security arms," he stated.

"The venues must be chosen with agreement from the organisers, security, and medical staff," he stated.

According to him, in order to provide proper medical assistance, the state Ministry of Health, the institutions Management Board, and private institutions where required must be involved.

"Anyone who disregards this directive will be subject to the full force of the law," the commissioner said.

However, he reminded everyone that the state is still in sorrow for the 35 children who died needlessly at a gathering in Ibadan on December 18.
