Isese Day: Lagos declares Tuesday public holiday

Tuesday, August 20, 2024, has been proclaimed a work-free day by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in observance of Isese Day.

The proclamation is included in a circular released on Monday by the state's head of services, Bode Agoro, with the heading "Commemoration of Year 2024 Isese Day – Declaration of Work Free Day."

According to the circular, the purpose of declaring the holiday was to demonstrate Sanwo-Olu's dedication to upholding traditional institutions and promoting the preservation of cultural assets.

On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., it did, however, order public employees to return to work.
It is officially advised for public information that this year's Isese Day Celebration will take place on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, according to the circular.Emphasising the pledge to provide the required assistance to traditional institutions, as well as enhance the promotion of Indigenous tradition by preserving cultural heritage, Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved that Tuesday, 20th August 2024, be declared a Work-Free Day for Public Servants in the State.
As a result, work will resume on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 8:00 a.m.

Therefore, it is required of all Accounting Officers to take note of the information in this circular and to publicise it widely.

Following the UN's recognition of August 20 as World Traditional Religion Day, the Lagos State Government is celebrating Isese Day by declaring a public holiday for the first time.
